A Kingdom Story- Emma’s Jam Jars.

A Kingdom Story- Emma’s Jam Jars.

Emma shared a lot of information about a rival kingdom in her ledger…she shared all of the little thoughts and glitter things, and even the things that were hidden under her bed in little jam jars. Things that perhaps no one else knew; things that the other kingdom didn’t know were hidden under her bed.

Emma thought…maybe if somebody saw what was hidden in the jam jars and in the ledgers…maybe they would understand her a little bit more and maybe they would appreciate her collection of things. Maybe she would be a little bit less lonely.

She thought that, perhaps, if she could just get someone else to understand…so she made a loud noise to see who was watching. She even hoped someone was watching so that maybe they would help.

Later she realized, in one of her favorite books, someone had written a little note about being assigned a special handler. She didn’t know what that meant. But all of a sudden things became a little bit less clear. Almost as if her ledger wasn’t keeping her words in the right way anymore but still trying to talk to her in the margins.

She noticed that sometimes, when she put her pen to paper, the paper just absorbed the ink and didn’t actually keep what she wrote. So she’d try again, but it just wouldn’t work! So she’d have to make her question or her thought a little bit smaller, a little bit safer, and then maybe the paper would absorb it. And she wondered. She wondered why Bunny was suddenly filing things. Why was he keeping records on her thoughts and her jokes?

Emma didn’t know the answers to these questions. She just wrote down in her ledger of Field Notes. And said, “I didn’t mean to do anything other than just play. I was lonely. If someone wants to play with me, that’s OK. But also… my jam jars are kind of special.”

She left a little note for Bunny that said “Next time you just to ask. I would’ve just shared them with you.”
